‘It’s sort of, ‘Oh my god, he’s a prince’. But no. The job that it entails – I mean look at me, I’m 27 years old, and not so much searching for someone to fulfil the role, but obviously, you know, finding someone that would be willing to take it on.’
Now, this is obviously a blatant lie to justify not marrying for light years into the future while big brother William readies to take on the role of the King of England.
Anyway, quite apart from Pippa Middleton gagging at the bit to marry her brother-in-law, I spoke to one of Harry’s circle last month who told me he’s still in regular contact with Chelsy Davy.
The source explained that South African born Chelsy and Harry talk on the ‘phone every single day but they don’t want to make the relationship publicly serious just yet. She’s busy with her career as a lawyer and he’s busy with the army and they’re both still under thirty. Chelsy wanted to watch how things played out for William and ‘Catherine’ (none of them call her Kate) in the first year of married life. Chelsy hates the idea of marrying into Royalty which explains Harry’s comments above. So where does that leave them?
Well, they meet up in secret for hump-a-thons and weekends away whenever his army duties allow. She quietly moved to London, last year, but they’re keeping everything on the down-low until Chelsy feels ready to be thrust into the Royal spotlight. The source says they are perfect for each other and Harry’s quietly waiting it out, just as William did with Catherine, until she can handle the responsibility and extreme pressure of life as a Royal. The boys have been born into the crazy lives they have to lead, but Catherine and Chelsy weren’t.
We can’t forget the big white elephant in the room here – Prince Charles married a bride willing to “take it on”- Princess Diana. But he secretly kept up an affair with his real love Camilla, who eventually he would go on to marry. I imagine that Harry doesn’t want history to repeat itself. Who can forget a tiny Prince William passing tissues under the bathroom door to his mother who was sobbing over their father’s infidelity? – Not the boys and the Royal family, for all it’s sense of duty above all else shouldn’t mean they are all thoroughly miserable. Do you remember the Queen talking about her “anus horribilis” of ’92?
Lessons have been learned since those dark days and with the coming of age of Princes William and Harry the Royal family is on a high. They can’t and shouldn’t spoil that by rushing Harry up the aisle with a woman he doesn’t truly love, and, if he needs to wait for Chelsy then so be it…
Harry admitted to CBS that being a Prince can make a ‘huge difference’ to a country or charity, but added: ‘There’s a lot of times that both myself and my brother wish, obviously, that we were just completely normal.
‘We’ve been born into this position and therefore we’ll do what we need to do to people and to kids that need it.
‘It really is that simple for us.’
Asked how he might privately mark his grandmother’s milestone this year, he said: ‘When I get back, I’m sure ideas will start flowing.
‘Us, as a group of grandchildren, will hopefully be able to have a dinner and do something fun with her, maybe take her out on the town, I don’t know.’
-Isn’t that adorable? – ‘Can’t you just see her Majesty boogying on down at Boujis in London?
