Saint Angelina: The actress visited an area of Baghdad home to families previously displaced by the conflict in Iraq and now returning due to conflict in Syria
There must be some negative news about Angelina Jolie about to break because she's spent a full week jetting from trouble-spot to trouble-spot, posing for photographs with refugees for five minutes and doing her best ET impression in a bid to look all concerned as Iraqis and Syrians explain in a language she doesn't speak problems she can do little about.
But if you're one of the Hollywood movie-watching estimated 21,000 Syrian refugees that are living in Iraq's western Anbar and Dohuk provinces, fret not, because on Saturday Angelina "urged" Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari to ensure the refugees have enough supplies. Presumably, he nodded, got a few autographs for his kids and filed her heartfelt pleas in the bin.
Whilst in the Turkish capital Ankara on Friday, a day after she visited refugee camps on the Syrian border, the multi-millionaire actress said that winter is: 'a very large concern for all of us.'
She added that she hopes that 'no one freezes to death in this very frightening time'.
On tour: Jolie said Friday that with winter approaching, she is concerned about the plight of hundreds of thousands of Syrians forced to flee their homes
Perhaps she could 'phone home and ask Brad if some of the 18,000 refugees that have fled Syria during the 18 month long conflict could stay at their fifty-bedroom Chateau Miraval in the South of France, their multi-million dollar home in the French Quarter of New Orleans, their two houses joined together in the Los Feliz, LA suburbs or even her own house in Cambodia where she has spent a total of one night ever?

i waver on this. Yes its famewhoring at its finest but at the same time if it raises awareness than it can’t be all bad.

  2. paramount says:

My Gawd where does it come from? The ET inspiration is BRILLIANT!!

  3. Princess says:

Agree with Sassy, it’s easy to lampoon Jolie, but when are own Government of millionaires are contributing to the conflict in Syria, with our tax money to boot, it’s hollow to say the least. She’s giving up her time even if it is in return for her image, no one else seems to give a shit.

  4. BOHOMOTH says:

Yeah but with world -wide recession, everyone’s more and more of the opinion: Charity begins at home…

  5. Canuck says:

She probably thought Aniston was going to debut her ring this week.

    • Guest says:

do you know how ridiculous you sound? Jolie is a Special Envoy for the UNHCR her trips are planned in advance, I seriously doubt she decided to go to the volatile Middle East(where she could be killed, look what happened to the ambassador) for fear that Jen will unveil her ring, in case you didn’t realize CNN, BBC, etc are covering her trip and its been on the news segments as well..its been 7 years time to get over it

      • Canuck says:

Turkey is not the Middle East, nor is it volatile, nor did they just have a revolution, nor do they speak Arabic and they’ve had a democratically elected government for decades. Also, do you know how ridiculous you sound? Do you really think the UNHCR people “plan weeks in advance” when disaster strikes? Pfffffft. These people are, by the very nature of their jobs, fast on their feet.

As Bomo said, if she’s out and about making a point of being seen, trying to look concerned while these people speak to her in Arabic or Kurdish, neither of which she understands, something bad is brewing. Or Jen is about to debut her ring and the Attention Ho wants to keep the spotlight on herself.

        • Guest says:

Actually I never said Turkey was in the Middle East. I sent Angelina went to the Middle East which she did, Iraq. The situation with Syria has been going on for months so yes they did more than likely plan ahead that they would go this week because Angelina is filming a movie and is the star so shes just not going to call off spontaneously. Iraq is very dangerous and many of us fans were worried about her safety especially after the U.S ambassador was killed in Libya. All of last week Im sure you saw it on the news Canuck there was so much Anti-America violence all across the Middle East including Iraq.

  6. jojo says:

    Her face looks odd…

  7. jane says:

her face in the first photo says it all. she is ‘taking’, not ‘giving’.

  8. Danielle says:

    I think Canuck nailed it…..

    • Guest says:

yes Angelina told the UNHCR High Commissioner António Guterres that she must travel the Middle East the week of Sept 10th because Jennifer just might show her ring, i mean who cares if these trips must be planned weeks to months ahead, lets forgo all that because Jen might show her ring.. i swear some of you all WANT to keep the triangle alive

  9. Naomi says:

    With Angie you never know.

  10. Freak on a Leash says:

She rehabbed her incestuous whorish suicidal drug addled image by shilling for a cabal of foreign bankers, soldiers of fortune and robber barons. She doesn’t have the heart, the need nor inclination to hear that ‘charity begins at home’.

  11. fifi says:

I mean the trips had to have been planned way in advance and seriously we need to let the Jen angle go, I doubt the parties involve have not. I think it’s great what she does for UN. I actually think she looks great here glowing actually, I am calling pregnant.

  12. BB says:

I’m with Sassy and Princess……I don’t care why she’s doing it, these people need our help!

  13. Mildred Fierce says:

Goody Pants was telling me that the whore was seen at the UN with a poppet wearing a vest and a pair of cut offs and flip flops drawn on its feet. She was sticking pins in it. Brad Proctor and his strumpet must be hung, I think we can all agree on that.

    • fluffypants says:

Sticking pins and feeding it heroin lollies.
Curse this poor 3G coverage, it’s all go today innit? Give ‘em hell ‘dred.

  14. Kelli says:

She is only doing this to raise awareness of herself. Didn’t you all notice she is the one that is front and center of all the photos. How is that helping the refugees. You’re going to say she is famous and brings awareness but if you look at nitty gritty details she does says anything of substance. And she only does this when she is up to something. Don”t care if a celeb uses charity to rehab their image but when they make it all about them (which she does) that’s when I have a problem.

  15. Kelli says:

…she does not say anything of substance

  16. Kelli says:

Also never get the feeling of empathy or any sincertity no matter how many crocodile tears she sheds. If you watch Princess Di or Audrey Hepburn you can see the difference in how they interact and the empathy on their faces. Jolie does not feel empathy and she is not a good enough actress to fake it.

  17. Rudy Mance says:

At least she’s trying to do something.. Asshole..

Do you have a clue what’s going on in Syria.. At all??

This was my first and last time on your history making/changing.. Blog..

  18. DMD says:

After seening these photos and reading her words I now know how much refugees suffer. I mean, I’ve seen pictures and news reports before that showed them. Even got to hear them speak via a translator. I learned a lot from those but I feel more aware now of their plight. But, like Ms. Jolie, just the thought and telling people I want to help makes me feel fulfilled enough. And in a few days I will probably forget all about it. Well, until I see more pictures. Then the process starts all over. The process of lying to myself and others that I actually give a shit.

  19. DMDI says:

It’s sarcasm. As in she lies to herself and other people that she genuinely cares. And its sad people actually buy it. It’s hard to sell sarcasm on message boards.

    • Guest says:

how do you know she doesnt care? goodness you haters are hilarious..Angelina has been doing this for 12 years..She was in the volatile Middle East where there has been so much Anti-American protests and violence including the death of a U.S. Ambassador that just occurred yet she still went..She has done so much and all you haters can think of is things she has done when she was in her 20’s Ive never seen a celeb’s past brought up so much..Angelina has built a school in Kenya, helps fund SOS villages, wild life sanctuaries, the list goes on.

      • Canuck says:

FFS, maybe you should brush up on your geography and the history of Turkey before you start labelling it “the volatile Middle East”.

        • BOHOMOTH says:

hahahahahahaha. Turkey is quite a lovely holiday destination actually, beautiful coastline and great for designer knock-offs if you’re so inclined.

        • Guest says:

Turkey is part of the Middle East although not as volatile but Iraq is and she was there for two days, nothing safe about that at all no matter how mcuh protection she has, look at the U.S. ambassador

  20. Guest says:

Angelina Jolie’s crusade for the world’s less fortunate is moving Congress closer to committing 10% of total U.S. AIDS-relief funding for orphans under 18. Jolie, who D.C. insiders say was this past year’s “most effective activist” among movie stars, held private meetings with several powerful committee chairmen, including a testy one with staunch law-and-order conservative Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., about the legal rights of unaccompanied alien minors.

  21. Guest says:

“There was no publicity about Angelina Jolie visiting wounded soldiers at Reed. One wife of a wounded soldier has been quietly writing a blog since her husband was first injured overseas. She mentioned the day after it happened in her blog that Jolie had come to visit the soldiers and talked about how she spent 20 minutes with her husband and spent a lot of time with others. She didn’t come with some entourage. It was under the radar. After Jolie left someone gave gift bags from her to each of the soldiers on the ward including a $1000 gift certificate to Best Buy.

It’s pretty hard to keep a visit from Jolie secret but it sure did take a while for the media to learn about it. Some time after the visit 2 people who took pictures (among many people who reportedly took pictures) posted them to the USO site at different times. The first pics posted were of Jolie putting on a USO T Shirt over her top and were posted by someone who works with the USO. Some time later the other 2 pics showed up on the USO site”

Sorry HATERS her trips DO make a difference,

“With tears in their eyes, 13 Bosnian refugees moved Thursday into ‘Villa Angelina’ — a brand new U.S.-financed apartment building built after Angelina Jolie drew attention to their plight.

The 13 mainly elderly tenants were the last in their refugee camp, an old rundown school for people displaced by the fighting in Bosnia that ended 16 years ago. Some cried as they walked over the thresholds of their small flats.

For years, authorities in Rogatica tried to find a permanent solution for them, but it wasn’t until after Jolie and her partner Brad Pitt visited last year that the U.S. agreed to donate $500,000 for housing. Jolie is a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. refugee agency. The refugees in Rogatica are convinced that her lobbying aided their cause.

The new tenants could hardly wait for the speeches to be over to receive the keys to the fully furnished small apartments in the bright yellow downtown building. Villa Angelina is the only building built in Rogatica after the 1992-95 Bosnia war that killed 100,000 people and left hundreds of thousands homeless.

Surrounded by low, grim houses and apartment buildings, the yellow building stands out for its beauty — one more reason to name it after the Hollywood star, people in Rogatica say.

After years of sharing a room with her sister and a bathroom with the rest of the refugees, Lena Babic, 79, finally held a set of keys in one hand and a photo of herself, her 73-year-old sister Mara, and Jolie in the other.

Even after she unlocked the door and sat on a sofa she and her sister now can call their own, Lena never put the photo down.

“Angelina saw everything,” she remembered, recounting the star’s visit to her old tiny room with the broken sofa next to the bathroom everybody used for washing clothes and dishes.

“She said, if I can do anything, you will have your own bathroom. She could not have done it on her own, others also helped, but she is the one who is in my heart,” Babic said, pressing the photo against her chest.

Babic opened drawers and cupboards in the kitchen, then returned to the living room and sat down, only to get back up again and check the closets — everything was so perfect, she gloated.

The apartments belong to the municipality but the former refugees will be able to stay in them as long as they live.

“It’s a real pleasure to be here, to see these people, how happy they are to establish their new homes in Villa Angelina,” said Patrick Moon, the U.S. ambassador to Bosnia, who opened the two-story building.

  23. Guest says:

Bet you didnt know she funds a boarding school in kenya as well, keep hating, meanwhile many of these people are thrilled to get Angelina’s suport:

In 2006, with a generous grant from the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, the UN Refugee Agency opened the first all-girls primary boarding school in Kenya’s Kakuma Refugee Camp. Since then, the Angelina Jolie Boarding Primary School has been a beacon of girls’ education.

In 2010, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation donated the funds necessary for UNHCR to provide the most basic items, such as shoes, storage trunks for personal items, water storage, and solar flashlights.

In response to receiving these supplies — true gifts in the eyes of the girls — the students wrote the following thank-you notes:

Just wanted to show any of the lurkers out there(because I know you haters will ALWAYS dismiss the work Angelina does) the impact Angelina’s work has had..keep it up Angelina!

  24. Guest says:

I see her paid minions are out in full force

  25. Guest says:

Hahaha all these were years ago people. And I’ll say it for you, “It doesn’t matter when it was what matters is that it happened!” It has to be true because people are listing numbers and writing sentences with quotes. Money buys a lot. Including telling people what to say and write. Ah forget it. All I’m doing is entrenching you into your original beliefs, so it’s pointless. You continue being naive and I’ll continue hating.

    • Guest says:

huh? did you even bother reading any of the links..the Walter Reed visit, the soldiers wife blogged about it in her personal blog and posted the pictures on facebook, so are you saying the Kenyan girls who got a boarding school and supplies were paid to say that they are thankful to have them? were the women who lived in a old run down house but now have a new apartment paid to say they are grateful that they now live in a decent place? So you are saying the soldier, kenyan girls, and Bosnian women were all paid to say that they are thankful. I mean your right, in the real world if someone built a school for me and paid for my provisions or helped my living conditions I wouldn’t say thank you either because thats just not normal(eye roll)

  26. Guest says:

Anyways Im done for the night..It was nice schooling you all and providing ACTUAL links and words(not tabloid gossip) from people who have benefitted from Angelina’s work :)

  27. Kate says:

Some people have too much time on their hands.

  28. moods of norway says:

I don’t want to see Angelina whene help is needed. I want to see her money there.
She can stay home, she doesn’t “raise awareness” to anybody but the slowest dim-wits amongst us who never picked up a paper.. her money on the other hand- could really make a difference…

    • Canuck says:

Is it just me or is her hairline moving back on her head these days?

    • Guest says:

Well, in reality, the spotlight actually keeps pressure on the governments on a number of issues like keeping their borders open. maintain the camps in a decent condition, and others. As a result of these visits an additonal border has been opened to Syrian refugees.

It does good and it helps in ways people will may neverfully be made aware of. Plus she also donated $800,000 to kick off UNHCR’s fundraising drive on this matter.

I am never going to bitch about people doing these things. Sometimes you need to step back and put aside the snark.

    • Guest says:

actually she donated money before the trip and if you bothered to actually READ the links below before criticizing you would see her trips DO make a difference

      • BOHOMOTH says:

        Tax deductible money though.

        • Guest says:

          “Tax deductible money though.”

Not necessarily. And at certain income levels these donations mean very little in actual tax “savings” if any at all.

It’s a huge donation. Which hopefully will trigger matching ones.

Oh it’s easy to write a check, and to do photographs, and spit out already written script by the UN.Yet if Jolie is asked any questions, off script, she stumbles. She can’t answer anything, accept “be more aware”. My admiration is saved for those volunteers, those that are boots on the ground workers. They’re the ones that inspire me. Those that give up their own lives, and live day to day, helping and giving these people hope. The volunteers of the various organizations like Doctors without Borders, The Peace Corps, etc.

They don’t fly in on luxury private planes, with an entourage of makeup artists, hair dressers, bodyguards, and private photographers. They don’t plan on staying long enough to get their close-ups, and then get to leave and go back to their 5 star hotel room, waiting to be whisked away again in that luxurious private plane, back to whatever multi-million dollar mansion is being rented at the moment.

They live, breathe and work amongst those disenfranchised people, day after day, without any fanfare, or “look at me, aren’t I great” attitude. They aren’t doing it to rehabilitate their images…like Ms. Jolie stated was the ONLY reason why she turned to humanitarianism.

When she leaves in her private jet, and goes back to whatever place they are living at the moment, those people’s lives are not changed. They are still refugees. They are still living in horrid conditions, and not a two bit tabloid celebrity is going to make any kind of difference. No amount of money thrown at them, no amount of photographs are going to do a damn thing. Ms. Jolie is nothing but window dressing for the UN. When you peel that away, there is no substance.

In every picture, it is Ms. Jolie front and center. There is nothing at all written about those other people in the pictures. NOTHING. It is all about HER. Her feelings, her misery, her worry, her, her, her. I have yet to learn ONE damn thing about any of those people in the pictures. No background story. Nothing is EVER written about those people. It’s really sad that those refugees? They look HEALTHIER than the woman that is supposedly going to help “save” them.

    • Guest says:

“Oh it’s easy to write a check, and to do photographs, and spit out already written script by the UN”

Then how come everyone’s not doing it?

What’s “easy” is to criticize it from behind the safety and comfort of a keyboard.

      • Dora says:

“Then how come everyone’s not doing it? ‘

They do, they’re just not attention whores about it. Do you think Jolie invented charity work? The majority of celebrities donate to charities, as a matter of fact many have their own pet charities whether it be research for cancer, AIDS, and other diseases…programs and education resources for poor communities…healthcare for low income children and seniors…victims of rape and child abuse…the list goes on. They write checks and donate money but don’t go around advertising it . Jolie isn’t special just because she’s involved in charity work, she’s just one of many, even with her attention whoring pictures that her private photographer takes doing her “look at me, I’m so concerned look”. Donating money for refugees is not any more important than AIDS research or any other charity that celebrities are involved in. So don’t act like she’s some kind of a special unique human being just because of her charity work, she’s not, as a matter of fact she’s not even one of the top most generous charitable celebrities :

She is always in the press for something when it dies down she goes off on one of her fauxmanitarian missions. It seems she can’t handle being out of the limelight
