After a short break from showering and being strapped down by a beauty team, Kristen Stewart made a red carpet appearance at the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences' 4th Annual Governors Awards at the Hollywood & Highland Center in LA on Saturday. And all smiles, she was. Head-to-toe, she didn't look half-bad with a decent make-up job, her signature rat's nest and a mixed lace topped gown from German-based design duo, Talbot Runhof's Spring 2012 collection. I say she didn't look half-bad, but specifically K-Stew looked like a quarter-bad. I hate that kick flare skirt. The top of the dress is detail enough, and a straight column skirt would have continued the line and effect of that lace-over-lace plunge. So what inspired this unusual show of chirpy-ness? I'm reluctant to say it in case it comes true, but *clutches nettle* perhaps she got a head full of Oscar nomination talk for On The Road. The noms won't be announced until January 10th 2013 but independent film must-read, Indie Wire reckons that she has an outside chance at the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award. We're guaranteed some interesting award season red carpet awkwardness at the very least. Clearly she deserves a Best Leading Actress for 'it was only kissing in the car, and just that one time the pictures were taken - pinky swear'.

Just proves that with enough money even the totally untalented can buy Oscar buzz.

I hear it’s Anne Hathaway’s to lose (the award, not her hair), but I’m rooing for Helena-Bone’em-Carter-Burton…

There’s no way KS is gonna win. I just can’t fathom her being nominated.

      • BOHOMOTH says:

it was for doing the old ski poles double w@nk in the car with her jellies out in On The Road I think… The Oscars will let her go along for the press I reckon…

  4. Jade says:

When will this skank go away? And an Oscar nom? Well, the Academy did grace Halle Berry with one for ‘acting’ like a ho. I’m really hoping not, because her ego is huge already — she doesn’t need Academy Award Nominee above her name for future film promos.

  5. Sassy says:

ruh ruh LOHAN will cut a biotch if she gets nominated ahead of her lol

  6. twiggy twiggy says:

To get to the final five she needs to fight it out with Anne Hathaway, Sally Field, Samantha Barks, Kerry Washington, Helena Bonham Carter, Amy Adams, Helen Hunt and Dame Maggie, amongst others (you could throw in Dame Judi for Skyfall, and Amanda Seyfried, too). It’s not entirely out of the question, if K-Stew can get campaigning, hit the circuit hard right now, AND the rest of the competition doesn’t hold up. However, it’s gotta be a helluvah performance, and while the notices haven’t been unkind, critics aren’t exactly going bonkers either. On the Road has very little awards traction right now and is getting overlooked by the likes of Les Miserables, Zero Dark Thirty, Lincoln, Argo, Life of Pi, The Master, Skyfall, Moonrise Kingdom, Amour, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Silver Linings Playbook, The Sessions … and it’s only going to get more crowded out there. The film has a good pedigree but it’s not being mentioned in the same breath as the others, and it’s not getting the huge push / exposure / buzz the others are.

I wouldn’t put too much stock into the Indie Wire chart. She needs to win buckets of crix prizes, get Globe / SAG / BAFTA noms AND campaign to make that final five. IW and the other awards sites like to post ALL possibilities at the final five, they just do it exhaustively and K-Stew’s name just got thrown into the mix.

    Breathe, y’all…

    • Shiny says:

If it’s a small outside chance, that still has me freaked.

      • twiggy twiggy says:

Just to clarify: the Indie Wire chart is good for a “catch-all” of the field of play. I wouldn’t put too much stock into K-Stew’s place in it. They have her 14th out of 15th and as an outside chance. Watch #1-7, esp. 5/6/7 because as usual that’s where they fight for the final ticket to the big dance. Keep watching sites like In Contention, Awards Daily, The Awards Circuit and The Envelope to keep up. There are lots of Oscar charts too, and they’re as volatile as the Dow Jones or the Nikkei Index, as actors are like “stock” and their value / places change frequently.

Full disclosure: this is my obsession. When a film that opens just after the Oscars is suddenly “Oscar-worthy” for next year is pronounced, I tend to take it with a grain of salt. I’ve been watching closely this shiz for over 20 years now! Good gawd I’m a geek :P
