As many of us prepare to put tools down to celebrate Christmas (until after the new year for the really lucky ones), there'll be a mad dash to the shops for the normal unorganized among us.
For those out there who have every gift wrapped, the fridge stuffed and champagne on ice, you might want to get started on those New Year Resolutions early, before excess gives you an unrealistic forced perspective that you are unhealthy. After all, a few days of eating and drinking what you want in front of the box doesn't constitute a slob heading for a heart attack.
A fresh outlook for 2013 is better applied to personal and career goals, to my mind. A man who never shuts up about enjoying what he does is Karl Lagerfeld, who has been quoted as saying:
Work is making a living out of being bored
Isn't he a treasure. If only more celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow were as honest as this glamorous granny.
Now few are as lucky as the Kaiser to be blessed with the kind of weirdness that gets noticed and rewarded but he has a point. Why not have a think over the holidays about that dream career, the exotic trip you've wanted to take all your life, or developing a creative outlet, like Unkle Karl chopping his axe here in his near 80s.
I say listen to the man who draws exclusively in Shu Uemura eyeshadow and who loves what he does so much, he'll never retire.
We all have to earn a living. Few get to do something that's personally rewarding and earns money, but I do like the idea of 2013 being all about not being bored.
