Sex and the City Creator Slams Sarah Jessica Parker (No, Not Like That)…

A few weeks ago, Sarah Jessica Parker (above, trotting along to see Tilda for her 48th birthday with Matthew Broderick and son James Wilkie yesterday) gave The Carrie Diaries the official 'neigh' calling them 'odd' and now SATC creator Candace Bushnell has hit back and put the kibosh on the idea of yet another terrible movie and basically called Sarah old.
"The reality is, that's showbiz. Sarah Jessica's first part was somebody else's part. She played Annie on Broadway. Look, Sarah Jessica Parker is 47," she tells The Daily Beast. "I think with the second movie, Carrie Bradshaw couldn't be an ingenue anymore. But I think they were stuck doing what the audience wanted. Realistically, a middle-aged woman who was married without children would be much more focused on her career and less focused on this Mr. Big: ‘Does he love me?' ... ‘Does he still not love me?' I mean, I think it was coming to the end of what they could do with the character."
Golf applause for Bushnell on that - they were most definitely, ahem, flogging a dead horse with the SATC movies. Carrie validating her existence through men and her ridiculous breakdown as SJP explored how she'd react in real-life if she bit the bullet and left Matthew Broderick on the big screen in the first movie was an eye-rolling snooze-fest.
"If it were up to me, the second movie would have been Carrie Bradshaw decides to run for mayor and Samantha helps her," Bushnell added.
Finger snaps for attempting to come up with a better idea than 'Carrie gets married', but that wouldn't have worked either. The series in its prime was great television but it's time to let it stay where it belongs- firmly in the past.

Getting the box set out for some Samantha moments. Carrie was a pathetic character and you could sense SJP pulling the storyline strings so she looked super classy as the others looked increasingly ridiculous as the series concluded.

This is actually funny, Candace Bushnell got lucky with SITC ….and so did SJP they should both shut-up.

Although, I did love the teevee show, mostly because it so accurately portrays the primacy of friendship in modern women’s lives, where men come and go (no pun intended), but your friends are always there for you. That was its appeal for me and for all my friends. Not sure why nobody seems to get that. Some producer or someone on the first movie said, all officiously, that the movie would focus on the characters moving in a new direction and not so much focus on their friendship. I thought to myself then, that the first movie will be the last, once women realize that they were tricked. The fashion porn is great and the dating horror stories ran true to life, but in the end, it was the way the ladies always came through for each other that made the show shine.

Too bad, no one realized that. I know I saw the first movie expecting to see that kind of storyline, but the minute I saw that Big was leaving Carrie at the alter, I told my friends that I was going to hurl if Carrie took him back after that ultimate humiliation, no matter how reasonable they tried to make it seem. But, ever in my imagination, did I think they’d go to the lengths they did to make it Carrie’s fault that Big jilted her. Every single woman I know was offended by storyline. And they wonder why the second movie bombed …
