Actually, no, scrub that, DO laugh and loudly.
Kate Winslet and Ned Rocknroll have named their baby son Bear Winslet – say sources close to the star.
The 38-year-old Oscar-winning actress gave birth to her third child (his first) in a hospital in Sussex, England on December 7th but details of the boy’s name have only just been revealed.
“Bear” is, to my mind, a great nickname for a baby, and in England we often call our kids eccentric terms of endearment – which are used daily, whilst an official name is reserved for things like school, passports and doctor visits.
Some of you will know that I call my son ‘Hamster’ - everyone calls him that and has done since he was born. I think there might be some people who think that’s his actual name.
But, his real name is Hamish – which is a good, solid, traditional moniker – ‘perfect to use in any given occupation he chooses and won’t have him blushing every time he goes through customs or does anything else where he has to provide official documents.
‘Bear’ is a very cute, adorable name if it’s kept to the confines of the family home and far away from the vicious cruelties of the playground and beyond.
‘Would it really have killed Mr. and Mrs. Rocknroll to call their baby son ‘Edward’ in an official capacity (like his namesake Edward “Bear” Grylls’ parents did) and keep the joke names for themselves?
