Lupita Nyong’o Being Played Too Safe On Red Carpet?

Just a few months ago, the near future looked so bright for the hottest new kid on the block, 12 Years A Slave actress, Lupita Nyong'o. Bold red carpet statements, interesting make-up choices, and that luminous skin. What's been going down as awards season has gotten underway is a case of safe-styling. What seems to be an attempt to sell her to the public at large as a classic beauty - rather than a smart, fashion-forward newbie - is backfiring as her last few red carpet outings resulted in a couple of big 'ol snores. To the 2014 Palm Springs International Film Festival she made it two-in-a-row for matchy Elie Saab. Is this boring as hell for a hot, young starlet? Absolutely. As the great Tom & Lorenzo say, "Girl, that's not your dress".

Elie Saab Fall 2012 Couture Lupita

On first sight the addition of the coat gave a little more interest to the look... Lupita Nyong'o Elie Saab Palm Springs But she looked even more like a 'mother of the bride'. If she's going to wear Elie Saab she needs to stick to bold colors, black or white, and for crying out loud stop wearing dyed-to-match shoes. I can only hope that she saw these pics and realized that she looked like a Republican politico wifey at a wedding, and will endeavor to give us an ol' one-eighty for the 'Globes. Remember, she is capable of this...

Meanwhile check out the dress on video (if you can tear your eyes away from Lupita's magical face) and look how phwoarsome her brother is.

I sort of yelped when I scrolled down and saw the 1950′s Miami gangster’s moll trying to do glam house coat. If she doesn’t KILL It during the rest of awards season I will be mighty, mighty effed off. I want to see Angelina sob as Brad and Lupita become the darling couple of the Oscars 2014 red carpet. This won’t happen if she looks like Pene Cruz’s character in Blow dressed her.

She’s too gorgeous. Why isn’t she on most beautiful list instead of white skinny pale chicks like Paltry.

That yellow wide neck jumper was amazing. She needs to look young for god’s sake. I was thinking bridesmaid, but agree the coat knocks it up to mother of the bride or even possibly queen mother.
