There must be some negative news about Angelina Jolie about to break because she’s spent a full week jetting from trouble-spot to trouble-spot, posing for photographs with refugees for five minutes and doing her best ET impression in a bid to look all concerned as Iraqis and Syrians explain in a language she doesn’t speak problems she can do little about.
But if you’re one of the Hollywood movie-watching estimated 21,000 Syrian refugees that are living in Iraq’s western Anbar and Dohuk provinces, fret not, because on Saturday Angelina “urged” Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari to ensure the refugees have enough supplies.
Presumably, he nodded, got a few autographs for his kids and filed her heartfelt pleas in the bin.
Whilst in the Turkish capital Ankara on Friday, a day after she visited refugee camps on the Syrian border, the multi-millionaire actress said that winter is: ‘a very large concern for all of us.’
She added that she hopes that ‘no one freezes to death in this very frightening time’.
Perhaps she could ‘phone home and ask Brad if some of the 18,000 refugees that have fled Syria during the 18 month long conflict could stay at their fifty-bedroom Chateau Miraval in the South of France, their multi-million dollar home in the French Quarter of New Orleans, their two houses joined together in the Los Feliz, LA suburbs or even her own house in Cambodia where she has spent a total of one night ever?

Turkey is not the Middle East, nor is it volatile, nor did they just have a revolution, nor do they speak Arabic and they’ve had a democratically elected government for decades. Actually I never said Turkey was in the Middle East. I sent Angelina went to the Middle East which she did, Iraq. The situation with Syria has been going on for months so yes they did more than likely plan ahead that they would go this week because Angelina is filming a movie and is the star so shes just not going to call off spontaneously. Iraq is very dangerous and many of us fans were worried about her safety especially after the U.S ambassador was killed in Libya. After seening these photos and reading her words I now know how much refugees suffer. I mean, I’ve seen pictures and news reports before that showed them. Even got to hear them speak via a translator. I learned a lot from those but I feel more aware now of their plight. But, like Ms. Jolie, just the thought and telling people I want to help makes me feel fulfilled enough. And in a few days I will probably forget all about it. Well, until I see more pictures. Then the process starts all over. The process of lying to myself and others that I actually give a shit.

The 13 mainly elderly tenants were the last in their refugee camp, an old rundown school for people displaced by the fighting in Bosnia that ended 16 years ago. Some cried as they walked over the thresholds of their small flats.
For years, authorities in Rogatica tried to find a permanent solution for them, but it wasn’t until after Jolie and her partner Brad Pitt visited last year that the U.S. agreed to donate $500,000 for housing. “She said, if I can do anything, you will have your own bathroom. She could not have done it on her own, others also helped, but she is the one who is in my heart,” Babic said, pressing the photo against her chest.

The apartments belong to the municipality but the former refugees will be able to stay in them as long as they live.

So you are saying the soldier, kenyan girls, and Bosnian women were all paid to say that they are thankful. Well, in reality, the spotlight actually keeps pressure on the governments on a number of issues like keeping their borders open. maintain the camps in a decent condition, and others. As a result of these visits an additonal border has been opened to Syrian refugees.
It does good and it helps in ways people will may neverfully be made aware of. Plus she also donated $800,000 to kick off UNHCR’s fundraising drive on this matter.
I am never going to bitch about people doing these things. Sometimes you need to step back and put aside the snark.

Oh it’s easy to write a check, and to do photographs, and spit out already written script by the UN.Yet if Jolie is asked any questions, off script, she stumbles. She can’t answer anything, accept “be more aware”. My admiration is saved for those volunteers, those that are boots on the ground workers. They’re the ones that inspire me. Those that give up their own lives, and live day to day, helping and giving these people hope. The volunteers of the various organizations like Doctors without Borders, The Peace Corps, etc.
They don’t fly in on luxury private planes, with an entourage of makeup artists, hair dressers, bodyguards, and private photographers. They don’t plan on staying long enough to get their close-ups, and then get to leave and go back to their 5 star hotel room, waiting to be whisked away again in that luxurious private plane, back to whatever multi-million dollar mansion is being rented at the moment.
They live, breathe and work amongst those disenfranchised people, day after day, without any fanfare, or “look at me, aren’t I great” attitude. They aren’t doing it to rehabilitate their images…like Ms. Jolie stated was the ONLY reason why she turned to humanitarianism.
When she leaves in her private jet, and goes back to whatever place they are living at the moment, those people’s lives are not changed. They are still refugees. They are still living in horrid conditions, and not a two bit tabloid celebrity is going to make any kind of difference. No amount of money thrown at them, no amount of photographs are going to do a damn thing. Ms. Jolie is nothing but window dressing for the UN. When you peel that away, there is no substance.
In every picture, it is Ms. Jolie front and center. There is nothing at all written about those other people in the pictures. NOTHING. It is all about HER. Her feelings, her misery, her worry, her, her, her. I have yet to learn ONE damn thing about any of those people in the pictures. No background story. Nothing is EVER written about those people. It’s really sad that those refugees? They look HEALTHIER than the woman that is supposedly going to help “save” them.

They do, they’re just not attention whores about it. Do you think Jolie invented charity work? The majority of celebrities donate to charities, as a matter of fact many have their own pet charities whether it be research for cancer, AIDS, and other diseases…programs and education resources for poor communities…healthcare for low income children and seniors…victims of rape and child abuse…the list goes on. They write checks and donate money but don’t go around advertising it . Jolie isn’t special just because she’s involved in charity work, she’s just one of many, even with her attention whoring pictures that her private photographer takes doing her “look at me, I’m so concerned look”. Donating money for refugees is not any more important than AIDS research or any other charity that celebrities are involved in. So don’t act like she’s some kind of a special unique human being just because of her charity work, she’s not, as a matter of fact she’s not even one of the top most generous charitable celebrities :
