Ever since Jodie Foster did her beautiful and very brave acceptance speech at the Golden Globes last Sunday, the internet’s been buzzing over who her boys’ biological father might be.
Quite apart from people missing the point that she thanked former partner Cydney Bernard and said how proud she was of their family, speculation’s been rife that Mel Gibson might have secretly fathered Charles, 14, and Kit, 12.
The New York Post peg their story on the fact that an ‘amateur genealogist’ speculates: “The kids look like him [Gibson] but blonder.”
AMATEUR genealogist? As in the guy on their picture desk going through some collects in their photo archive of the kids and Gibson and deciding he must be their dad?
Yes, Gibson and Foster have long been close friends but personally I don’t think it matters if he’s biologically the boys’ father or not.
Jodie’s planning to tell them the truth when they reach twenty-one but I always say the person who comforted the kids when they were having nightmares, nursed them through childhood maladies and offered them comfort, shelter and advice throughout their young lives is the one who should and always will be seen as the parent.
And in this case- that’s Jodie and Cydney and speculation over who might have been the sperm donor many years ago is an insult to them both.

Agreed. Plus, anyone who looks at a pic of Gibson in his youth and then say they look like him is a bit crazy.

It would have brave if she’d done it twenty years ago: no-one cares now, it’s just a way to promote her availability after a string of flops
