Yesterday, fashion designer (smirk) Jennifer Lopez debuted her Fall collection for America’s fourth favourite mall department store, Kohl’s.
Without looking to the press release, I’m going to give it a shot myself.
For Fall, I wanted to give the American woman accessible glamour. Mirror-prints that have been doing the rounds forever, dressy sweatpants, and ghetto gold. Just a little bit of the heaven that is my multi-million dollar closet churned out for a mass market and presented in a shiny open space in a New York event loft to justify the over-the-odds budget department store brand price-tag and drive you into the jammed rails in some middle America open air mall.
So if you’ve ever watched Project Runway and wondered what the judges mean when they refer to the design contestants presenting ‘department store clothing’ – this would appear to be what they’re referring to.
The only thing I’m actually drawn to is the black jersey jumpsuit JLo is wearing, which is from the Spring line (and on sale). Maybe the collections aren’t that bad after all, and they just chose to show the janky looking stuff for press. But a quick scroll down through this seasons line of cropped jeans and print maternity-looking tops would suggest that the jumpsuit is a one-hit wonder.
The Kardashians will be shaking in their boots all the same.
